  19. Memory protection would not help in this case any more. Once your 
  20. application crashes, it doesn't matter whether your OS goes with it or 
  21. not. Even if you had mem protection, the application would still crash 
  22. and you couldn't recover the file. It's a matter of how the application 
  23. is written. Of course this also sometimes depends on how applications 
  24. interact with each other, but even then it boils down to how friendly a 
  25. particular app is WRT resources.
